Water supply and on demand distribution

Solutions > Reservoir Outlets

Strategic storage to respond to demand, improving system performance and water management efficiency, reducing variations in distribution caused by reservoir outflows.

Common situations

Having a reservoir associated to the supply area is essential to improve water management in places where supply cannot temporarily cover the demands. This concept makes it possible to store volumes at unneeded times to be strategically distributed at the right moment.

Most reservoir outlets are through orifices, whose flow equation depends significantly on the water head above them. This results in the flow rate varying as a function of changes in the upstream level. This variability causes a non-uniform distribution, generating problems of efficiency in the domain of bypasses, irrigation practices, more intervention by operators, and others.

Technical Challenge

TEMEC aborda esta problemTEMEC faces this problem by proposing solutions adapted to the magnitude of the level and flow variation to be distributed, in order to optimize the efficiency of the system and solve the required issues. Speed in the response to changes in level and flow, resistance to vandalism and climatic conditions are essential aspects.

Our Solutions for Reservoir Outlets

Safety, Reliability and Versatility

TEMEC CMXT Autonomous Gate

For reservoirs with high flow rates and low heads. Completely autonomous, robust and reliable solution.

It allows modifying the regulated levels by manual or automated set point changes.

View Study Case

Features

To operate reservoirs with high flow rates and low head, the optimal choice is the MXT mixed level gate. This equipment exerts precise control over the bypass level, while accumulating the incoming flow upstream until the gate limit is reached. In critical situations, the gate can be provided with an emergency opening to prevent possible overflows upstream. By having a downstream control section that allows a known flow curve, specific flows can be constantly bypassed, as long as the reservoir level allows it.

These solutions consider small or medium-sized civil works, including one or more gates controlled by floats and ballast weights. The absence of motors and sensors contributes to the robustness and reliability of this equipment.

The gates allow set point changes on the regulated levels in case the customer requires it, manually or with the automation of small devices inside the gate. This automation is focused on the management of the set point change, not on the adjustment operations of the gate itself in case of fluctuations in the water source, a situation that will always continue autonomously by the floats of the gate, which guarantees an efficient, smooth and reliable operation under the most severe weather conditions.

Deliveries with modular measurement

TEMEC MO Distributors for Manual or Automated operation

Flow delivery guarantee in gravity discharge outlets. Robust and reliable solution.

This solution does not allow modification of the installation levels on site.

View Study Case

Features

These solutions propose the use of modular measurement equipment to control deliveries at the outlets for ecological flow. They are mounted on the crest of the headworks itself, always assuming that the level variations are compatible with the operating ranges.

For limited level variations, in the range of approximately 70 cm or less, the implementation of Distributor (TEMEC's Modulo de Orificio) is recommended. These consist of calibrated orifices for different predefined flow rates. In this way, within their operating range, these devices will provide a specific flow rate according to the user's preferences.

The absence of any complex mechanisms or lifting system contributes to the robustness and reliability of this equipment.

► Tips about use

This solution includes equipment inspired by a simple hydraulic design, totally autonomous, robust and free of any mechanical complication, allowing it to adapt to the most severe working conditions.

Features

  • Precise and robust equipment.
  • Service transparency (ON/OFF opening).
  • Manual and simple operation.
  • Easily monitored for instantaneous flow data (with installation of limit switches for OPEN or CLOSED register).
  • Easily remote controllable (with installation of electric actuators).
  • Low and simple maintenance.

Tips about use

  • Upstream level variation must be compatible with the variation allowed by the equipment.
  • Downstream level must be compatible with the head loss of the equipment.
  • May leak minimally.
  • It is suggested that protective fencing be installed to minimize possible vandalism to the gates.
