The solutions with this gates are designed to guarantee a high enough water level to pump without any problems, even with highly variable conditions in the canal. Also, if it is necessary to avoid keeping the upstream canal permanently full or to guarantee the downstream supply, MXT gates are used, which, in addition to fulfilling the AR1 gate function, perform other tasks.
This equipment allows the upstream level to be controlled to obtain: a minimum upstream level, a specific downstream level and a maximum downstream level, all at the same time and with the ability to be easily adjusted within a certain range.
This makes it possible to maintain a minimum level for pump operation, establish a level in the downstream pipeline that translates into a specific flow rate if the flow curve of the section is available, and accumulate water available in the upstream canal for use in the event of a change in the inflow. When the established upstream level is exceeded, the gate opens to prevent upstream overflows. The absence of motors and sensors contributes to the robustness and reliability of this equipment.

The generation of an upstream backwater compatible with the minimum required level is done by installing a flat or sector gate that blocks the conduction. Allowing the discharge from the bottom, facilitates the removal of sediments and other accumulated material. It is essential to operate these gates constantly by skilled staff, ensuring that the opening is compatible with both the circulating flow and the required level upstream.

Estas soluciones plantean la generación de un nivel mínimo deseado aguas arriba de la instalación, para garantizar dominio en la derivación, mediante el uso de clapetas abatibles de vertido superior.
En situaciones donde el hidrograma de funcionamiento del canal es conocido y predecible, se pueden instalar elementos diseñados para conservar un nivel mínimo determinado sin afectar significativamente la conducción cuando el caudal aumenta. Una solución simple y versátil es la utilización de clapetas con eje de giro en el fondo de la conducción.
Dependiendo de la operación, la clapeta genera una obstrucción parcial del flujo, creando un remanso correspondiente. De esta manera se garantiza el nivel de dominio deseado. Es importante destacar que este elemento requiere operación manual y debe ser abatido en momentos de aumento de caudal. Puede plantearse accionamiento automático mediante mecanismos reductores e incluso mediante una instalación oleo hidráulica.
